Our History
Our company has existed since 1944 under the name of Shawl Cosmos of kashmiri Crafts (SCOKC) by Ismail family, and was originally founded as an effort to maintain the tradition of processing cashmere wool in small family businesses in Kashmir, a traditional production method that dates back many generations. We have been always focusing on fairtrade, Animal welfare and sustainability. We work on a day to day basis with local kashmiri Artizens and we also make yarn and hand weave ourselves as we have inherited this art since generations. Almost all our products are hand made and 100% pure kashmir.
One of the goals of Kashmiri Copenhagen is to provide small shawl producers in Kashmir valley an opportunity to earn a living wage and thereby improve the quality of life for themselves and for the local community, and to continue the long and honored tradition of cashmere shawl making. We also want to provide the best quality of pure cashmere wool to our consumers that shall keep them very warm & be soft in hard cold winters in the north, on the other hand be light on them during the hot summers.
In 2013 we decided to relaunch the company and rename it to Kashmiri Copenhagen. A business name which would include the history of SCOKC, but at the same time contain the basic idea behind the new company, which is to combine the best from the Kashmiri and Danish culture – and provide unique, quality products that lasts! Also in the long term. For us it is important that the production of cashmere scarves are carried out in accordance with sustainable methods, which we achieve by keeping close contact with the small cashmere producers in Kashmir valley.
